Oldest church in Alsace, France

On our way back from Switzerland, our navigation system took us on some back roads through the Alsace region of France. We saw a sign for an 11th century church and found it. First we found a newer church that was closed in town.

Some ladies directed us to the oldest church in the region, still with original door and other markings.

Kanderstag, Switzerland: the town

Kanderstag, Switzerland is located about an hour's drive south of Interlaken. It is less crowded but has wonderful slopes and hiking trails.
This is the hotel where we stayed, across from this church.

Bob surprized me by renting a convertible for the weekend. It was wonderful for those mountain roads.
It was a reasonable price, being a chilly fall.

We were treated to some cows coming to town from the mountain one afternoon, led by a little boy.

Kanderstag, Switzerland: the mountains

We took a ski lift from Kanderstag up the mountain and found some hiking trails.

Up the mountain they had a luge. We each tried our hand at the slide.

Kanderstag, Switzerland: to new heights

After we had climbed a couple of hours, we found a chalet offering a light lunch. We enjoyed the breathtaking view with a cup of soup.
