Luxembourg: Beaufort Castle Medieval Festival

The town of Beaufort has a Medieval Festival every July. The profits go towards the needs of the handicapped in the town. Our son Bob loves exploring castles but he also has a heart to help a good cause. So he pressed us to participate at this particular festival. He especially enjoyed speaking with the re-enactor at the left. Entire families camp out for the weekend and live as if they were in olden times.

At every castle we visit Bob buys another wooden weapon.

Luxembourg : Echternach

Echternach is a town on the Luxembourg border. It has churches and walls that go back well over 1000 years. We visited in February when the trees were still bare. It seems it would be beautiful in summer.

Rachel's Visit: Vianden, Luxembourg

The Vianden Castle is one of the most nicely restored ones in the area. Rachel loved it.

In Vianden, Luxembourg, just across from the German border, lies a sleepy town with a lovely castle on the hill. Every year in August they have a Medeival Festival. Our son and I checked it out. The whole town gets into the act.

Vianden Castle Medeival activities

Vendors and preformers dressed up in medeival costume. Some became beggars and ill people. Children played. Warriors fought and danced. Some were very skilled. It was a great day.

We went to the festival early in the morning to avoid crowds. We enjoyed a medeival meal in the cellar at lunch before heading for home.
