Denmark: Copenhagen City Center

Copenhagen, Denmark has a historical city center, though the rest of it is sleek and modern. We stayed in the center on a sunny weekend and walked all over.

Rick Steves' city walking tour and suggestions never steered us wrong.

To the left is the Rosenburg Castle.

Sunday morning palace guards marched in the street.

The streets in the old town are narrow and colorful.

This statue of King Frederick V is near Strøget, the first pedestrian shopping mall street in the world.

Rick Steve's book recommended going to lunch for an ample Danish sandwhich in a restaurant, and then eating supper at a hot dog stand in a park, since Copenhagen restaurants are very expensive. We found a lunch recommendation as "cheap," a restaurant at the top of the Telegraph Museum between Strøget and the Round Tower. The view is wonderful.

There are hot dog stands all over town. We ate there more than once.

This is the City Hall. Near here we met up with a walking tour recommended by Rick Steves. An actor who plays the part of Hans Christian Anderson, native son of Copenhagen. He shows off the town giving a history from a unique perspective.

Richard Karpen is a character and does a wonderful job telling you about the town he loves. His website is listed below.
